I have the same question. I have two of these 4 bay enclosures. One has newer firmware. The older firmware one has horrible read/write speeds, barely getting 30Mb read and write! The other bay is getting 150-200 easy on all drives. I need to figure out how to update the firmware on the slower bay. T...

UPDATE On a whim, I decided to try putting my Time Machine drive in the first bay of the ProBox. This solved the problem. I also tried to Yosemite drive and that worked too. So please disregard my last message, it appears you can boot from a drive in the ProBox. Maybe it says somewhere in the manual...
