Re: Identical units but no file read

Try renaming the file - changing the extension from .mts to .ts extension. This may make the files readable through the 'movie' section. It sounds like a different chipset between the 2 models (7802 vs 7815, perhaps)?

Re: HW180STB issues

Don't use thumb drives. Only a very select few can maintain the sustained write speed necessary. I use a 2.5" 320 GB hard drive. The lower size gives response time that is close to flash drive - but without the write speed problems that come with flash drives

Re: Time shift buffer limit

The settings let you set the size of your timeshift buffer. That's your limit. Your limit will be however long it takes for you to fill that buffer - which can change depending on the bitrate of the source material being paused. Lower resolution channels will give you a longer pause buffer than high...

Re: HW180STB-Y18

I'm not sure. Using that drive with the Raspberri Pi, it requires at minimum a 2A 5V Power Supply [a good quality one]. I would think that drive would burn out the homeworx in not too long a time if used without a separate power hub

Re: Not all Programmed Recording Will Record

The disappearing timer issue is due to a 'rescan' bug. On some channels when the box tunes to the frequency - there is something changed (or it thinks is changed) in the PSIP. So it will 'rescan' the channel. You can see this live when you tune and the channel will 're-tune' itself for a split-secon...

Re: Help with recording. TV show

The unit can 'wake up' from stand-by to record shows. (The power light is 'red'). If it is turned off from the hardware switch on the box it won't record - but a box in 'stand-by/off' mode can certainly record shows without being green-light 'on'.

Re: HW180STB Hard Drive Not Working

I believe that is too large of a hard drive to work with these boxes. Only 800mA is available from the USB port. In addition - the larger the drive, the longer the response time even if you get it powered. I would never go above 1 TB for a drive. In fact, I use a 2.5" 320GB drive so that I don't ove...

Re: Not all Programmed Recording Will Record

I have never had any good luck with drives of that size. It seems the larger the HD, the longer the response time is when the box turns on (not to mention if you don't have the drive externally powered). I actually wouldn't put anything over 1 TB on the box -- and I absolutely wouldn't depend on the...

Re: Will a USB flash drive work?

They're not recommended. Sustained write speed is difficult to keep up on a USB flash drive. The only one that has even spotty success is the Samsung Ultra drives (not the Cruzer). For a couple of months I had decent success with the Ultra - but then I started missing shows with it as the drive had ...

Re: expected lifetime of HW180STB boxes?

For what it's worth, my current HW150 is going fine at about the 11 month mark. I'm not too bent out of shape on the lifetime of the boxes. It's not just Mediasonic -- any of the MStar-based boxes are about the same, with slight firmware differences between them. I do think the top two are the Media...
