Disappearing mirror that reappeared after reboot

Postby AlZ » April 14th, 2019, 12:47 am

System: HUR3-SU3S3 ProRaid, 2 Bay, running off USB on Win10 Pro.
Configuration: dual 4TB drives as a RAID1.

The HUR3-SU3S3 was running like a charm for several years until we had a power outage.
When it came back up, the mirror was gone and Windows told me I had a RAW drive that needed formatting.

Hard Drive Sentinel said both drives were prefect so I started running partition and file recovery software in an attempt to salvage the files.
Luckily, in the midst of that, Windows 10 decided to do an update and rebooted the machine.
Magically (and luckily I guess) the mirror reappeared albeit with a recovered folder. Chkdsk confirmed some scrambled files but the vast majority were ok.

My questions are:
1. Does anyone know what caused the mirror to disappear? My guess is the power cycle.
2. Is a reboot the prescribed first troubleshooting step for situations like this?
3. Would the mirror have disappeared if I was using the eSata connection?

Thanks in advance!

1. Usually there is no way to pint point what caused the drive to go Raw. But in your case, if it happened after power outage, then that could be it.
2. No, but it doesn't hurt to try. And in your case is really odd it came back. Most people have to do recovery.
3. it could have happened with any type of connection. (as mention can't definitely pint point what caused it)
some say the cause, could be:

1.Hard disk drive cable problem
2.Bad sectors:
3.File system structural damage
4.Partition table damage
5.Re installation or restoration of operating system
6.Virus attack
7. Not properly ejecting the drive from OS
