Hard drive boot loop

Postby drowhunter » June 28th, 2016, 11:46 am

I have used this device for about 4 years without issue, but in the last week and a half the drives have disappeared, from my server

I have four HDD's installed , and the boxes are plugged into a UPS to prevent sudden shutdowns
i have tried plugging in the various usb 3 ports but what happens is

it starts to scan the drives all four lights are blinking as if reading is happening

the drives will show up in windows for about a minute and then they will dissapear right away

then the loop continues with the drives showing up and vanishing all over again

, i went an bought a new Probox thinking that the old one may be dead after 4 years of being on all the time, but to my surprise the new one does the same thing

is it possible that this is a BY DESIGN feature that shuts down the probox when a disk is failing?

please get hard disk sentinel (there is a free trial)
check the SMART info and health % on your hard drives

yes if 1 drive in the enclosure has problem it will cause problems to the enclosure.

it turns out that i was able to locate the dying drive

1 question does the enclosure have a policy of when it shuts down based on a certain level of health of the drive

say 10% health

as this would give time to recover the files before it goes Kaput.

hi,
no policy, you will just encounter problems when 1 of the drive is bad.
so if it was working well and all of a sudden you get disconnecting issue or shutting down
then it may be 1 or more drive in the enclosure has gone bad.
