Drives Spinning down in eSATA mode

Postby zaxxon2040 » March 13th, 2016, 7:45 am

I own two 4-Bay USB 2.0 Drive Enclosures:

Code: Select all
JUL 1100275

APR 1200222

To connect these to my laptop and take advantage of the faster eSATA speeds, I use the following eSATA to USB 3.0 adapter (with port multiplier): ... ndows.html

As long as I am accessing the drives and transferring data, the Mediasonic enclosures work great. However, after maybe 3-5 minutes of inactivity, the drives themselves spin down. I have to re-access the drives to get them to spin back up. I have read the many posts about this in the 4bay USB3 forum.

  • Is a firmware update available for the models I have listed above?
  • If firmware is available to correct the spindown issue for the USB 2.0 enclosures, is it possible to determine the firmware of my current enclosures and obtain a backup of that firmware as well? Sometimes new side effects are introduced when upgrading firmware. The USB 2.0 operation of my enclosures has beeen running great so far and if the new firmware doesn't work well for me, I would like the ability to rollback.

Thanks! :)
