2 Mediasonics won't work under USB 3.0

Postby Abmcconnell » December 1st, 2014, 2:02 pm

Hi,

Have had two of these 4-bay units for several years now working flawlessly under an older USB 2.0 Mac.
Recently bought a new MAc with 3.0 USB ports and all hell has broken loose.

If I connect the drives directly to the Mac via USB 3.0 they connect/drop/connect/drop at will.
If I run them through a USB 2.0 hub to that same new Mac they either turn themselves off or continue attempts to initialize but never get there.

What am I missing?

That indicates your enclosure is from 2010
at the time Mac did not have USB 3.0 (they choose to go thunderbolt instead)
and this enclosure was indented to work in Mac as USB 2.0 only
and USB 3.0 on a PC
you can try using a USB 2.0 cable to connect to the back of the enclosure and to the Mac USB 3.0 port, So it works as USB 2.0 only

here is a screen shot of the Box back in 2010

You might be able to still get the speed of USB3 by using this adapter and the eSATA port on the ProBox:

(hope links are okay here)

I have one that I'm going to try with my ProBox if I continue to have USB 3 issues with my Mac. It supports the port multiplier that is required.
