the Yes its working thread

Postby loudgas » December 15th, 2016, 6:27 am

So after spending some time looking at the various posts that are remotely related to my issue, and sensing these forums are not as active as most people would hope.

I would like to propose a thread to be dedicated to known working combinations and models/brands if possible of onboard or slotted cards and cables.

So if we can't fix using what we got, we can always replace the cheaper portion of our investment into this solution.

been using the 8 bays H82-SU3S2 since 2012. In general it is pretty stable. Nothing fancy, I am connecting it to a embedded Sil3132 in a Intel SS4200 box (upgraded to a E2200 CPU with 2GB ram). all 8 Drives installed with WD Green 2TB.

When was on WHS V1, it had some disconnect issue later turn out one of the 8 WD Green 2TB was going out. Then I upgraded to Server 2012 R2 on the same hardware and never get disconnect issue. Still using the original cable came with the box. To me this is a very stable enclosure and I happen to have a ss4200 intel box which embedded with the Sil 3132 chip. I also get decent speed. I am getting consistent 100MB+ on a gigabit network over SMB, and this very low end and dated system still serve me well with both SMB and NFS share in 2017. and no shutter streaming BD movie.

one thing tho, if I look in Windows Device manage to check Sil3132 connected drives' link speed, both in WHS V1 or Server 2012, only 1 of the 8 drives will link in SATA2 speed, and all other are only SATA1 speed. since even SATA1 is enough for all the rotatory drives I installed there, I didn't care too much.

Never used it with USB 3.0 so I have no comment on this.
