Files Disappearing...

Postby LinuxWalker » October 10th, 2015, 1:33 pm

So lets start of saying I have a 8 drive RAID 50 array... I just added the last 4 drives and expanded my storage from RAID 5 to 50...

I connect my ProRaid Box to the router... At the same time I upgraded my primary router to DD-WRT...
I was having issues with the router seeing Folders in the root directory and having nothing in them... a 0 byte folder...
I was able to plug my Box back into my laptop see all the files and plug back into the router seeing empty folders...
Anyway I restored the Router to factory software and it was able to see all of my FIles and Folders again...

Now I have one directory that is 2.83 TB and all single files that range from 1-4GB a piece and when I restored my router it had 2526 files in it... Now I add files to this folder and the next day those files are gone... I have links in a DB to those files and when it tries to access them they say they have been deleted and asks to remove them... This has happened 2 or 3 times this past week... Files in other folders are fine and staying just not this one folder in the root directory... I'm tempted to back up all this data again and reformat the drive but that would take days... maybe just the one folder to copy off and delete and copy the data back... but this is weird!

Any suggestions?

Last night it did it again...
I was able to upload the files to a new folder on the root and they are still there...
However I copied two files into two different folders one had 7 files in it the other had 3...
The one with 7 files now has eight in the folder the one with 3 had 0 files in it after copying 1 file into it?!
There are no errors lights all is blue... I'm loosing files...I'm about to move files into new folders and delete the old ones...
And running Check DIsk...

if you are plugging 8 bay to a router, The USB port on your Router may not be providing enough power to keep enclosure connected

I use a Linksys WRT1900AC and it has a USB 3.0 port plus I had the HFR2-SU3S2 for 2 years attached to the router and it worked fine... and I had this one attached for almost a year now and it been working great no issues... changing the RAID and adding drives went smoothly the problem was when I switched to DD-WRT it would folders and not files... I reverted back to the stock OS in my router and currently copying all the information off the array so I can reformat it... I'll attach my chkdsk log... But I have been running Chkdsk and it fixes the problem and then once a week it does the same thing again... Hopefully reforming the drive will do the trick, I'm hoping DD-WRT did something to file system...

you added 4 more drives while enclosure was connected to router?

Router USB ports don't support multiple drive bays enclosure.
So for Raid enclosure, You would have raid it and format it while connected to a computer
after it has becomes 1 big drive (1 drive letters) . Then you can try connection to router
