Slow Write on Raid 50 Using 8TB WD Red

Postby jason67 » October 15th, 2016, 10:19 pm

I am trying to use an existing H8R2-SU3S2 ProRaid with the firmware upgraded, which was getting excellent +100MB/sec on write/read using 3TB WD Red. After upgrading to 8TB WD Red I get only about 30MB/sec on writes, on either USB or eSATA. Reads seems to be fast as expected. Any official word on 8TB support?

Thanks,
Jason

I am not sure how to identify the revision of the unit.

I tried with a different unit, same model and version, and I got the same result.

Hi
Your unit will only support up to 6TB
only Rev.3 version can be updated to support 8TB (since it has different chipset)

Thanks for reply. I already started using the new setup with 8TB drives. It's slow on writes but reads are fast as expected and I am using it mostly for reads.

Are there any risks in loosing data with the 8TB drives?

I bought a Rev. 3 unit and I would like to move the drives to from initial unit to this one. I already have data on them, is this a safe operation?
