Replacing my 150 with the 2018 model

Postby Neil2014 » October 12th, 2018, 11:40 am

I have an external USB hdd with many recordings on it. Is it compatible with the 2018 model? That is, I plug in the "old" drive to the new 180 and it will play the recordings?

Does the remote control for the 150 work with the new 2018 model? I don't want to throw it away.

Don't own a 150 from 2018 myself. But from screen shots posted by others, I see that it uses a 7802 chip.

Generally, recordings are compatible with other boxes using the same chip. So if your existing box uses a 7802 it will probably work.

To check your chip pull up the menu, go to System / Information, and look at the HW version. It should include either the number 7802 or 7816. If it's 7802 your recordings will probably work without issue.

If it's a 7816 your recordings won't work, but there's a workaround. Using a PC, rename the recording files (the ones that end in .mts), changing the extension to .m2ts. Now you can plug your drive into your new 150. Your old recordings won't show up in the PVR section once the extension is changed, but they will show up in the Movie section and can be played there.

Also, the 150 remote control hasn't been changed in years, so I wouldn't think that it was suddenly changed last year.
