Recording format and HD usage

Postby helpful55 » November 24th, 2016, 11:20 pm

I think that the 180 is going to work for me. I would like to know what format it records video in? It appears that is probably set or can that be selected? I see a list of formats is will play back in as avi, mpg, dat, vob, mkv and mjpeg. Is something like mp4 playable? I believe that avi is a large file size like WMC uses. If the 180 uses that is avi about 4BG per hour? Not really a problem, but is that about the limit of file size without converting and having a lot of power for that? There seems to be no real in between.

Does the USB support 3.0 or just 2.0? Also does this HD a WD10EURX that is made for DVR use have a sleep mode that will cause a problem? Thanks for any info.

it records in .mts (mpeg flavor ) format. VLC media player can play it natively.
For my time-shifting, I use a format converter/editor program to edit the commercials out. Hope this helps
