NTFS vs FAT32

Postby padgett » February 2nd, 2015, 8:36 pm

Just noticed that the PVR format on the 180 uses FAT32. Many flash drives do also. Only thing wrong is that no FAT32 file can be larger than 4GB which limits recording time. OTOH NTFS has no such limit and the 180 (haven't tried the 150) has no problem recording on and playing back from a 32 GB flash formatted NTFS.

Just recorded over 2 hours that way, unfortunately it was only 2.8GB but suspect the answer to several recording issues might be as simple as formating the drive with NTFS.

Can anyone verify ? If so please add NTFS formatting capability.

Last night I tried recording with a flash drive formatted NTFS and it recorded for 2 hours and 47 minutes and used 14GB of the flash. Don't know why it stopped then I had downstairs watching Top Gear does Australia but this seems to confirm that you cannot record a long HD show with a drive formatted FAT32.

Confirmed that NTFS is the way to go for the PVR drive. A FAT32 drive will work with the 180 but will not allow recording anything larger than about 430 MB on my unit. Note that the PVR drive is user-supplied, so the user (YOU) must format the drive to the required file system (NTFS). The 180STB does not have any formatting function.

Confirm that NTFS is the way to go for a drive, PVR FAT32 drive to work with the 180, but will not be allowed to record anything larger than about 430 MB in my unit. Please note that the drive PVR is the user so that the user (you) need to reformat the drive as the system files needed (NTFS) 180STB not a function of any form.
